Small Businsses Crush The Competition With Local SEO

Local SEO is an Integral Part of Selling Services & Products to Local Customers.

Local search engine optimization (LSEO) is a powerful digital marketing strategy for business owners selling products or services to local customers, because if you’re not showing up in local search, you’re missing out on new business and hemorrhaging money.

Increased Web traffic, brand visibility, and an increase in revenue are all advantages of investing in SEO. To take control of your local search results, here are some tips on how small businesses take advantage of local SEO best practices:

Keyword Research

Keyword research is a fundamental step for every successful SEO campaign. It involves discovering and analyzing phrases and terms that people are actually typing into the search engines to find local businesses like yours.

So, how do you discover which keywords to rank for?

To start, brainstorm keywords yourself or ask customers, friends, or family what keywords they would use to find a business like yours. Take your list and input them into Google’s Keyword Planner to find new keyword ideas and to get the estimated search traffic for those keywords.

True keyword research is an in-depth and detailed process, and best left to the professionals that do online internet marketing as their business so you can run your own business.

NAP Information:  Next to SEO, N-A-P are the three most important letters in local search. NAP is short for Name, Address, and Phone Number.

If you want to show up in local search, it’s crucial that Google understands where your business is located. Google is able to pick up NAP information on your website as well as on other sites around the web. It uses the consistency and quantity of NAP mentions as a ranking factor for local search.

The more often your business information is found on the web, and the more consistent it is, the higher your visibility will be in local search.

Customers Reviews

Over 92 percent of consumers read online reviews to find local businesses and services. On top of that, 60 percent of consumers judge a local business on its overall star rating with 43 percent find 3 out of 5 stars to be the minimum rating before consulting with that business and usually you need at least six 5 star reviews to be considered trustworthy.  It’s as high as 97 percent of consumers aged 18 – 34 read online reviews to judge a business. With so many people resorting to online reviews for business recommendations, it is imperative to get positive reviews.

The quantity and quality of your online reviews play a direct role in our search visibility. The more 5-star reviews your business has, the more online exposure it will receive.

To get positive reviews you will need to focus on creating an amazing customer experience, publishing and parading those reviews, best with video. After every job is finished, politely ask for feedback.

Google My Business, Facebook, Yelp, Foursquare, Houzz, and Angie’s List are great places to receive and reply back to reviews. Read more about how online reviews affects your business and it’s online presence.

Mobile Friendliness

Having a Google Mobile friendly image is crucial. If users are feeling frustrated when visiting your website due to a poor mobile experience like small text, needing to pinch the touch screen to zoom in, slow loading time, then you should update to a mobile friendly website.

Most mobile-friendly websites feature responsive web design, meaning that it is able to adjust to fit the screen size of any device. Responsive websites are easier to manage from an SEO perspective. Alternately, you can develop a separate website designed specifically for mobile.

Failing to comply with Google’s Mobile Friendly guidelines will result in a major loss in mobile search traffic.

Citations and Social Profiles: Social media icons

A citation is an online mention of your business with all or some of your NAP information. They generally take the form of a local listing in an online directory like YellowPages.

A social profile is like an upgraded version of a citation in that it is often more trustworthy, unique, and customizable. A few of examples of social profiles are Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and Pinterest.

To build your website’s visibility, you will need to create as many relevant and high-quality citations and social profiles as possible.

Follow these basic SEO guidelines when building citations and social profiles:

Be 100 percent consistent with your NAP information. Always use the exact same business name, address, and phone number. If you move locations, you will need to update your NAP information on your website, citations, and social profiles.

Write unique business descriptions that summarize your company’s history, niche, products, and services. Upload at least 5 relevant, high-quality images, not including your company logo.

Select up to 5 relevant business categories with the first 3 being the most important.

Google processes over 3.5 billion searches per day. If you’re not listed on Google, you’re missing out.

Be found on Google Maps and help customers find directions to your business.

Respond to customer reviews and promptly to any negative reviews (preferably before they are published) with reputation management software from LocalAdConnection.com.

To list your business, go to Google My Business and type in your business name and address into the search bar.

You can also upload images that will be shown in the local search whenever someone searches for your business.

Secrets of Online Reputation Management

Online Reputation Management (ORM) is one of the most dynamic activities online and can be (without an expert online reputation management agency like LocalAdConnection.com)  one of the most difficult tasks too. It is the only activity where you have little or no control over different situations and/or circumstances which can completely turn around all the hard work invested into a campaign!

An outsider speaking about your company’s products or services, the brand’s offline activities, and the actions of an important entity associated with the brand, all these can completely change the results of your campaign overnight! Positive mentions, neutral mentions and negative mentions; these more or less rule the life of that person or online marketing firm who is trying to protect your online reputation.

Let’s run through the aim of any ORM campaign:

– Ensure that the client get as much positive exposure as possible. Try and get as many positive mentions up in the top 10/20/30 results!

– If it isn’t positive, ensure that you have neutral content about your brand!

Neutralize the NEGATIVE content pieces !

The easiest way to go about doing this is to ensure that you have positive/neutral content online talking about your business and your brand. (Not that it is easy to do that!).

Also, since you work closely with the brand, you become the official channel of sorts, responsible for creating content and syndication across mediums and platforms!. The content creation involves having an exhaustive content plan in place and using various mediums including videos, blogs, articles, etc.

. Does this sound similar to SEO?

The lines distinguishing both these services are becoming less distinct by each passing day. The objective of both SEO and ORM now align towards the creation of good, unique and engaging content. Content marketing remains the focus of both services. Reaching out to new people, gaining greater visibility and creating a stronger brand presence are extremely important. The principle of SEO is now to ensure that not only is your brand reaching out to more people but also focus on creating a strong brand presence online.

SEO is Now Part of Brand Building.

Brand building is becoming a more integral part of SEO activity! ORM has by principle always concentrated on promoting the brand!

It seems that a new service package offering Branding + SEO + ORM is the call of the hour. Anyone who has an online store, not only wants to increase their presence and standing, but also wants to ensure that their brand is being recognized by their target audience.

What if your business reviews aren’t favorable?

Negative reviews high up in search results can become a sure-fire way to lose interest before you have even gained it.

What’s more, Google will highlight those reviews with stars making them stand out in search results.

Unless you have established an internal system of managing and monitoring your customers, in many cases, you’ll need to track down the original source, so follow the unflattering suggestions to their results pages. Sometimes it will be reviews on official sites like Yelp, and you can comment to tell your side and to offer a solution to the poster.

Other times it may be a blog, and that is when you have to contact them directly. Ask them to take down the review in exchange for offering up a solution to whatever is bothering them. Ask them to try working with you, your service or your brand again, then writing a second review mentioning the first and how things may have been different this time.

If it is a reasonable person they should have no trouble doing this. Occasionally you may come across a troll, in which case legal action may be required.

In the meantime, or if this isn’t possible, you can bury those results with plenty of varied and high quality content and mentions across the web. Include a lot of social posting mentioning your name in that campaign.

An outsider speaking about your brand, the brand’s offline activities, and the actions of an important entity associated with the brand, all these can completely change the statistics of your campaign overnight! Since you work closely with the brand, you become the official channel of sorts, responsible for creating content and syndication across mediums and platforms! The principle of SEO is now to ensure that not only is your brand reaching out to more people but also focus on creating a strong brand presence online.

Anyone who has an online store, not only wants to increase their presence and standing, but also wants to ensure that their brand is being recognized by their target audience. Ask them to try working with you, your service or your brand again, then writing a second review mentioning the first and how things may have been different this time.

Learn Why Your Customer Reviews are Crucial To Effective Marketing

Google Invests in CGC Reviews, Ratings & Testimonials

Consumer Generated Content (CGC) in the form of Reviews, Ratings, Testimonials and Social Media Posts will guide your target audience in their decision making process more than branding or simply Google search results.

While Google continues to update their search algorithms, it’s critical that marketers follow their lead and invest where Google invests– consumer-generated content such as ratings and reviews, questions and answers, testimonials and social media posts– giving websites an edge when competing for placement against competitors.

We know consumers place more trust and faith in the opinions of their peers than they do in those of brands. The voice of the consumer continues to be the most powerful tool any company can wield. The companies that take advantage of this fact will win the race.

The success they found by utilizing reviews and ratings, product sampling, and additional forms of consumer-generated content, spurred the company to seek out additional opportunities to drive brand visibility in a unique way.

Search engines elevate site results with fresh content publication. Adding reviews to a product page typically results in a 15– 25% increase in search traffic. With every Google change and update, today’s search engine optimization (SEO) is no longer the science it was 9 months ago, which means SEO experts must evolve their approach to keep their pages ranking. Understanding Google’s current search dynamic is paramount to success.

Mobile devices deliver the technology that transcends the digital realm to support shoppers in the physical world. As much as 30% of consumers have changed their mind in the shopping aisle as a result of information gathered on their smartphone.

The voice of the consumer continues to rise as the most powerful and trusted content by consumers. It’s the next wave of feedback and innovation. As a result, consumer generated content (CGC) has grown and expanded into different types of content: photos, videos, questions, chats, and more. Moving well beyond traditional word-of-mouth marketing, CGC has transformed into a powerful, trusted, and essential form of communication between businesses and people.

Questions: What exactly can businesses learn based on all that information? How can they use this content to deliver better shopping experiences and build lasting customer relationships?

Consumers today want to know about brands, but they also want to know about the experience of engaging in a relationship with that brand. From ratings and reviews to social media content, photos and tweets, companies using CGC as part of their marketing tactics are experiencing more engagement with their customers resulting in more sales.

Increasingly, consumers trust the opinions of like-minded consumers more than they trust brand messaging. Research shows that 44% of millennials are more likely to trust experienced consumers over brands and three times more likely to use social media to find consumer opinions.

Brands, retailers and service providers must prioritize the content their consumers prefer to see: ratings, reviews, questions, and social posts written by actual consumers sharing their honest opinions– good and bad– on the brand, services and its products. Integrating this content into marketing initiatives is the best possible strategy to establish a connection with prospective consumers within your target audience.

How Online Reputation Marketing Will Get You New Business

Online Reputation Marketing and Reputation Management Services are Essential to Your Business’ Success

Online reputation marketing is the single most critical aspect of advertising or promotion for both small and large business owners. And with competition tighter than ever, businesses are seeing that Online Reputation Marketing is now a necessity. Part of having a positive online reputation is having at least 6-10 positive online reviews, (preferably in video form) and making sure your company brand presents a trustworthy, reliable, and credible image, everywhere your business appears online.

Online reputation marketing is one of the most effective forms of marketing today. Online reputation marketing is a combination of good public relations and savvy Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and marketing techniques, two marketing disciplines that require very different skill sets. Online Reputation Marketing will give you the edge that your business needs to brand you as a leader in your industry and crush your competition, resulting in greater online visibility, authority, and higher conversion rates, ultimately giving you more customers and increasing your bottom line.

Reputation has top importance in business. Reputation management helps you in building brand recognition while both building and maintaining a strong positive reputation.  You put a lot of effort in shaping your business and struggle to improve its online visibility. At times you feel that you have put in your 100% efforts. Yet, there are dissatisfied customers not pleased with your products or services and they publish negative reviews that often directly affects whether you will receive new customers.

For example, 97% 0f those aged 18 – 34 will consider online reviews in judging whether to hire a business. 88% of referrals from friends or family will search that business online to see what other people think about that business before calling them. With those and other impressive statistics, it becomes clear how essential a good online reputation is to any business.

Managing Online Reputation

Online reputation management is in part monitoring the status of your business on internet by managing the negative content that is destroying your reputation and using positive customer feedback to build or rebuild a good reputation. If you provide a great experience to your customers, they share it with their friends, the internet and the good words spread. If your business has good reputation, and you get the exposure online to make your target audience aware of your existence, your business will grow to generate more revenue.

Hence, every business should know what others are saying about you. Monitor the web by activating  alerts and automated or personal responses for all situations to catch a potentially bad review coming out or at least diffusing it through a variety of methods used by LocalAd Connection. See the negative content before it is published, react to it by engaging the dissatisfied customer to see if the negative experience can be resolved, or react to it in an accountable, responsible, reasonable and trustworthy manner, and manage searches for your business with links, proper and broad listings, and accurate business details on maps. Use customers’ feedback, testimonials and reviews to distinguish you from your competition in how you identify yourself and how customers view you. Read more here.

Local SEO with a Winning Strategy

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) Targeting Your Audience Rather than Google

Here’s a basic consideration when planning your company’s SEO strategy: Has Google visited your site to fill out your contact form lately? Nope.

Why do so many SEO firms focus more on what Google is doing than on what people want?

We, at LocalAdConnection.com, have a core belief that if we spend as much time understanding people as we understand Google, you will win. Manipulation of Google is temporary, so we prefer to spend our time understanding your audience instead.

When potential customers are searching online, do they find you? Our customer-centric approach ensures that your site, content, and assets are being found.

We aspire to be the search firm that fights for the “attention of audiences” over the “anomalies of algorithms.” We are investing more time in understanding people instead of Penguins and Pandas. That might not be what you want, and that’s okay, but if this sounds like home sweet home, keep on reading …

Audience

Everything starts with the customer. If you don’t understand your audience, how can you give them the experience they want? We focus on identifying the people that are most likely to interact with your brand and find your content valuable. We’ll understand your audience (almost) better than you do. What are their needs, desires, fears, frustrations, pains, problems, anxieties, likely objections, aspirations, goals, demographics and motivations to determine your “avatar” consumer.

Experience

Our team defines the search experience your audience undergoes from top of funnel to bottom. Whether it’s figuring out where they hang out online or what mix of content is most easily digested … we’ll map out your audiences’ search experience path.

Strategy

With an understanding of the customer’s desired (or sometimes “perceived desired”) experience, we develop strategies to address top of mind questions your audience is asking, building out corresponding strategies to provide valuable answers that they can identify with and truly believe that you know them better than they know themselves. From writing content to getting it in the right hands, we’ll ensure that your audience finds you.

Execution

Knowing which strategies to implement, we will architect project timelines; taking goals, priorities, and industry trends into account. We never sit back and let our strategies run their course, we’re constantly optimizing and hustling, ensuring that our efforts are not only reaching your audience but affecting your bottom line.

Analysis

We want to be held accountable for the success metrics that your boss holds you accountable to. After all, we’re in this together. We only consider a project successful if you’re successful, and our in-depth analysis of our efforts ensures a win-win result with success for all.

SEO vs. PPC – Which Provides You Better Value?

Local SEO gets Many More Clicks but PPC has Slightly Higher Conversion Rates

Organizations of all sizes are realizing the importance of online marketing, especially through search engines. Nowadays, people are more likely to end up on your website via a search engine than going directly to it. In fact, according to Jupiter Research, a Forrester Research company, 81% of users find their desired destination through a search engine.

This research makes it clear that it’s very important for your brand to have a strong presence in the search engines, ensuring that you’re in front of your target audience. There’s still a big decision to make – whether to use SEO (Search Engine Optimization, or naturally ranking high in the organic results) or PPC (Pay-Per-Click ads, the Sponsored Links and purchased ads on a Google search) to get in front of your target?

Done correctly, both can get you on the front page of the search engines for targeted terms and in front of your desired audience. However, each has its respective benefits and costs.

Organic results are 8.5 x more likely to be clicked on than paid search results! That’s a large disparity and is likely attributed to searchers gradually learning the difference between organic and sponsored results, and recognizing that organic results are typically the more respected resource. Also, researchers have used heat maps to show that searchers’ eyes focus on the top organic results, with people barely noticing the ads to the right.

PPC holds a slight edge in conversion rates, as paid search results are 1.5 x more likely to convert click thrus from the search engine. The SEOmoz article attributes, to the fact that the paid search result’s “text and landing page is custom optimized by the advertiser.”

Looking at both of these numbers, it can be concluded that “the opportunity from organic search is 5.66 x that of paid search.”

Given the flat out choice of ranking high organically or having great PPC ads – the overwhelmingly logical choice is organic. We all know it’s not that easy or else those “Rank # 1 in Google TOMORROW” robo calls would be much more effective. True SEO takes time, not get rich quick schemes.

PPC’s true strengths are its speed and expansiveness. With a PPC campaign, you can be on the first page for a multitude of targeted terms within a day. The terms can cost anywhere from pennies to many dollars per click; also, for a PPC campaign to be done correctly, it’s usually best to hire a firm that can manage it full time. This can mean that PPC campaigns can get very expensive, very quickly – especially when done correctly.

SEMPO, the Search Engine Marketing Professionals Organization, estimates that 87% of search engine dollars are spent on PPC vs. 11% spent on SEO efforts. That’s more than $10 billion spent on PPC vs. just $1 billion spent on SEO.

Don’t get me wrong, there are certainly times to use PPC – when you’re first launching your company, it’s a great way to get your name out there and build brand awareness. For a limited time offer or special event, PPC is an effective way to get exposure that SEO wouldn’t have time to contribute to.

PPC is more effective for products than it is for service companies; for example, we focus local SEO efforts on terms such as optimizing web design, landing pages, social media and anywhere you have online pages. Although we have a nutriceutical company client that runs a PPC campaign focused around its specific product offerings, and this strategy makes sense for their market.

However, when it comes to the long term lifeline of your internet marketing, the result is clear – SEO offers the better value in search marketing. You won’t rank # 1 overnight, but SEO is more affordable and the long term benefits have been proven. All of these facts demonstrate that your company should spend more of its time and resources focusing on SEO vs. PPC.

Learn Benefits of Backlinks Beyond SEO Top Ranking

Backlinks Can Offer More Advantages Than Just Optimization

Google’s search algorithm places such great emphasis on the accumulation of backlinks that link builders can forget the value of a link beyond search. Yes, quality backlinks can carry enormous weight and help bring your site to the top of a competitive search engine results page (SERP).

That’s not the only purpose of a link, however.

Even though the majority of clients at my company are interested primarily in search traffic, link building can certainly be used for other purposes. Here are just a few:

Referral Traffic
Branding
Building Authority
Building Relationships
Promotion

Understandably there’s some hesitation when it comes to pursuing links in today’s SEO environment. Even though links are unquestionably an important ranking technique, Google likes to engage in a large-scale FUD offensive every-so-often. They do this in an effort to ward out spammers/black hat SEOs.

Seek links you would want even if Google did not reward them. Not only will it actually lead to links that Google is likely to value, it will provide other marketing benefits as well.

Referral Traffic:
According to Conductor, search engines direct about 47% of online traffic. Of all the sources, search engines represent a plurality of directed traffic. But that means the majority of traffic is independent of search engine rankings. According to the same Conductor study, non-social referral visits account for 15% of the internet’s traffic. Even using Conductor’s sample size of 310 million hits, that’s 4.7 million referral clicks.

Hence, links don’t only lead to search engine traffic. A well-placed link on an authority site can direct an abundance of referral traffic.

Never underestimate the value of a good click. You should always prioritize the chase for search traffic over referral traffic. Just think of referral traffic as the pretty bow on the Christmas present.

Branding:
The more you see and recognize something, the more like;y you are to like it. Think of politicians (even a TV star of a popular TV series- (ever heard of The Apprentice?) Those that the public recognize have an easier time of viewer recognition and familiarity breeds authority and often likability. The University of Arkansas recently conducted an experiment in which they had subjects listen to two different mixes of the same piece of music, one in it’s original form, the other edited so that a segment of it was looped. The subjects reported to liking the latter version far more. The researchers attributed this to the mere exposure effect, a phenomenon in which people grow to like things and concepts simply out of familiarity.

Links are visible to the public, or they should be anyway. And because links are viewable to the users and not just search engines, link building can be used for branding.

Branding is marketing 101. Consumers/readers trust established brands, even if those brands have done things that would ordinarily lead to a negative reputation.

Right now in the world of SEO, it’s more important than ever to be cognizant of anchor text diversity. Google is not fond of sites that use the same keyword-rich anchor text over and over.

So along with keyword and white noise anchors, branded anchors should absolutely be part of your link profile.

Being “forced” to use your brand name as an anchor is a way of simply getting your name out there. Even if a user doesn’t click the first time seeing your name, the more that user sees your name, the more that user is going to be compelled to click. And once they click, they are led to the biggest branding opportunity you have: your site.

There’s no better representation of your brand than your website, and link building is a valuable way to get people to look at your brand in all of its glory.

Authority
So your name is out there now. As I said before, established brand names can still thrive even when having a negative reputation. Denny’s had a great 2013. Now take a look at what their customers think of them. Sometimes, even having a bad reputation is better than having no reputation (and therefore no recognition) at all.

Having said that, wouldn’t it be better if your brand had a reputation as an authority and leader within your niche?

I’m talking about authority in the expert form., not in the numerical form like domain authority; most consumers don’t know what domain authority is. Being associated as a “know-it-all” isn’t that bad…Geeks are pretty cool now. Look at the popularity of TV shows like The Big Bang Theory, Doctor Who, Heroes, and 24.

Getting links on authority sites is a great way to have some authority rub off on you. Not only is the link viewed as a vote of confidence by search engines, more importantly, it’s viewed as a vote of confidence by users.

Relationship Building
If you’re building links without building relationships, you’re doing it wrong. I can’t emphasize enough how much easier link building is when you have relationships within your niche to rely upon.

It’s a noisy world. Without authority, your voice is a whisper, almost impossible to hear over everyone else. But as a recognized expert, you don’t have to shout, because people come to you. They seek you out, join your world, and consume everything you have to offer. It’s good to have authority.

Well, who else other than you knows your business better than you? What if you had a video or audio recording of you as the expert discussing the top questions your targeted audience would love to have answered when considering to buy your product or service? Wow! All of a sudden you are educating your highly interested prospects on the very questions typically everyone considering becoming your customer has, which automatically positions you as the expert.

You can set off a psychological chain reaction that positions you as the respected source in your field by putting online YOU explaining either common questions, a case study to demonstrate the value your business can offer, different aspects about your services or products that differentiate you from your competition and makes you better, etc.

Not only will you enhance your ranking in Goggle or other search engine searches, but you will establish yourself as an authority in your niche, brand you as a leader in your field and dominate your competition that more than likely has none of these type expert interviews that we, as digital marketing experts are so proficient at in helping you accomplish this simple but valuable tool in your marketing strategy.

For example, a dentist, bankruptcy lawyer, roofer, and any other service provider might start with: “I’m often asked: How do you find the right (dentist)?” or “Here are the most important questions you want answered in finding the right (dentist) for you.” We assist you in preparing a script tailored to your business and in language you feel comfortable saying. Reveal and obliterate the myths of your industry. Proudly declare your tips, knowledge, experience, beliefs and vision. Stand firm and confident.

In sum, having you do expert interviews and publishing them online is a winning strategy to make you the expert, brand you as an authority and convert mere visitors to your website into clients, customers and consumers.

For example, we are often asked: “Which is better, PPC or SEO?” We probably hear this question more than any other from companies trying to figure out how to best spend their Internet marketing dollars. It would be great if there were a simple answer, but there are way too many variables for that to be the case. Here are some questions to ask about your organization that will help you zero in on the right answer.

How patient is our organization?

SEO usually takes months or longer to succeed, especially in competitive verticals. In contrast, PPC can obtain results very quickly — at a price, of course. Some company cultures have a difficult time waiting for results; if this sounds like your business, you may be fighting an uphill internal battle getting the level of commitment for SEO necessary for success.
How are your competitors succeeding?

Are your top competitors tearing it up with PPC, or are they noticeably absent? It could be that if competitors are shying away from PPC, they have already determined it’s not a good avenue. Instead of recreating the wheel, you can piggyback on their experience and avoid a flat tire. Same logic can apply to SEO.

Can you budget for both?

A very sensible approach is to implement a long-term SEO campaign while running PPC campaigns concurrently. If you can succeed on both fronts, you will tap into what are usually the two largest and most important sources of online leads. But can you afford to excel in both?

If you spread your budget too thin, you will not succeed in either PPC or SEO, and end up with a lose-lose instead of a win-win.

Still not sure which avenue is best for your company, contact us: www.localAdConnection.com
